The days have been full and you have been wild and disoriented after our move. At times like this you just need to call up your closest girlfriend and head to the beach - which is exactly what we did. We had brunch and then headed for the sea where you took off like a rocket for the water and ran straight in fully dressed, giggly and squishing your little piggy's in the sand. You ran around soaking wet and the only thing that could drag you away was the promise of St Kilda's famous cake shops. You ate biscuits with silly icing faces and clapped for the street circus performer and fell asleep like a little koala in my arms on the way back. When things get overwhelming I need to remind myself to drop everything for a bit, call in back up and remember there is nothing a little sand and sunshine can't fix..

Moving on ...

IMG_6195
Today we turned turned in the keys to our little miners cottage, said goodbye to our favorite neighborhood and got ready for all the things to come. This move is the beginning of so many upcoming adventures, but those were all at the back of my mind when I thought over the last couple of years and our time in this tiny home. So many firsts. Your first little crawl, then step and skip, then full on run. Your first words, teeth, friends. The first time you crawled from bed, slid off the edge and walked off into the house on your own and in a moment you were free and independent and our lives changed forever. Our first piece of adult furniture we ever purchased, that fantastic L-shaped couch that pulled out into a full sized bed where we had movie nights and lazy Sundays (which were actually Mondays since it was the first day of a chefs weekend) that would occasionally roll over to Tuesdays. The second room that housed so many loved ones as they passed through Melbourne or began their new lives here or simply needed a warm place to sleep after a long night. That oversized tub that fit a whole family and a little girls favorite baby doll. Evening wines and chats in the tiny garden while sat around on milk crates. The front porch sofa gathering spot where poetry, politics and - most of all - nonsense was discussed over cans of Stout. Neighbors that popped their heads over the fence and through the lime tree to say hello and have a laugh. What a beautiful time in life, here's hoping the next memories are just as sweet.
Goodbye little home. Thanks for all the love. xo

Sew: Kids Clothes Week (Day Four)

Raindance

For day four I sewed up a bright rainbow colored skirt to lift our moods from the gloomy Melbourne weather. I picked up Tiny from play school and when she tried it on and I took her outside to take a photo, she immediately started dancing and singing in the rain, which then made me do the same. Cheer up mission accomplished!

Sew: Kids Clothes Week (Day Three)

IMG_5879
Just in time for a birthday party of one of the little Lady's nearest and dearest tiny friends I sacrificed a piece of fabric I had put aside to throw together a little skirt for myself. In all truthfulness she rocked it way better than I could ever have dreamed so it ended up being well worth it. I wasn't intending on doubling up on patterns this week but Im glad I did and I'm loving these even more than the first pair. We partied, we ate cake and the wild child even defeated the evil green eyed goblin ... Bam!

Sew: Kids Clothes Week (Day Two)

Billy_Leggings

On day two of Kids Clothes week I got to test out a new pattern I've been working on, basic kiddo leggings. I met for lunch with a dear friend and between us we had in tow 3 little ones aged 1, 2 and 3 ... Lottie was wearing a pair I stitched up earlier but Jack and Billy's were sewn up in the morning and I'm pleased to say the fit was perfect and they withstood a morning of jumping, diving, sandpits and breakdowns and they still looked great. Yay! Overall a lovely day of sew, play and adorable little munchkins.

Sew: Kids Clothes Week (Day One)

IMG_5699

Today is the first day of Kids Clothes Week, a collective sew-a-long in which you pledge an hour a day to sewing and creating for your favorite little ones. Throughout the week I will be sharing home-sewn goodness and updating the ever-growing Tiny Lady's wardrobe along the way. Honestly this couldn't have come at a better time, last week when I dropped her off at play school I turned around for a final goodbye wave and saw that I had sent her into the big bad world with her pants high above her little ankles. Shame Shame mama bear...
I got a little over excited and started my week this weekend, which you may have noticed if you popped in here yesterday. Due in part to the above circumstances I pulled out one of my very favorite patterns and a piece of floral print fabric loveliness I purchased a few weeks back. These pants were made with the HOSH pants pattern by LouBee Patterns. This Pattern is a staple to have on hand because you will always find a funky little stretch fabric that would look AMAZING in these. The waistband is made with buttonhole elastic so it stretches and grows with them and the fit is perfection. I purchased this PDF pattern about a year ago and when I received it in my inbox I emailed Sarah, the designer, asking her where she got the fantastic fabric she used on her example pair. She immediately emailed me back giving me her favorite online resources and where to find the best deals - That's what I call customer service! I'd give these pants (and Sarah herself) 5 huge golden stars.

Now, for those Pants...

"A portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week in 2014"

Lottie Cakes: Your eyes have gotten bluer, your hair fierier and your laugh louder. You woke up each morning this week reaching for a cuddle with an "I wuv ewe", a smile and the tiniest smooches in the world. You're a wild woman by day but when you drift in between the waking and sleeping place you are the sweetest creature I've ever encountered. This picture you are wide awake and taking a snack break before you have me chasing you all around town but on the way home you'll snuggle up in your ergo carrier with your little arms wrapped around my waist and your sweet marshmallow cheek snuggled into my neck and Ill (almost) forget your crazy toddler ways.
